The 16-pound cat began making strange noises and suddenly launched herself at Davila's 27-year-old son Victor. The New York Post reports that Rosa and Victor hid in the apartment's bedroom while Rosa called 911 and asked them to rescue her family from the upset kitty.
Hordes of police officers arrived at the apartment expecting to find a wild cat -- and were surprised to find the portly Russian Blue instead. Carmen was coaxed into a cat carrier and taken to Manhattan's Animal Care and Control center where she may be available for adoption after she is evaluated.
Davila told the New York Post that Carmen was diagnosed as borderline diabetic with a thyroid condition; she wanted to be fed every five minutes and she was rapidly gaining weight. Davila was unable to afford proper medical treatment for Carmen and she believes that her disorder led her to become violent.

Please get her away from a family that does not provide her with the proper medical care. That poor kitty. She should be put up for adoption by some excellent cat rescue group in that area and potential owners should be carefully screened and made aware of her medical conditions. She deserves the proper care & love in her life. I hope she gets it. Bless Carmen's heart!!!

I fully agree.. Having cats in my entire life they are family., my children.. If even the basic medical care can't be provided the feline(s) should be put up for adoption to a willing and caring family.. I have 2 beautiful girls and would never think about letting them or any future friends go w/out needed basic medical care..
Remember that no one owns a cat., we just room together and give each other friendship and companionship..

All of you are a little quick to judge this situation, not that I can fault you for that.
It is very rare indeed. However, from time to (thankfully) long, long time your basic
sweetie pie kitty pet goes stark raving mad.
I had a friend who had to defend herself with a broom from a Calico stray she took in, although it didn't go truly nuts for a few years after it moved in with her.
Her heart however, was big enough to take in one of my male cats....who was docile beyond belief, until he found two litters of kittens in "His" house. He began to attack them viciously, he was OK with all people.
She decided to take two of the kittens home-AND- she took the full blown demon cat as well. She has a very substantial home, and her husband loves to play with his massive train collection, listen to music and watch TV in their basement.
They installed a screen door at the top of the basement steps, and all 5 of them have been living happily ever after for over 10 years.
I knew of another outdoor cat that decided out of the blue, it would be best to physically attack all delivery people, mailmen, drug store, UPS, FedEx, you name it. It was a behavior that just showed up one day, after they had owned the cats for several years.
So, while people don't talk about, it happens. Cats go crazy. Who knows why?
ClemiFern said it all - kitties deserve good health care, too.
Am I the only one who thinks this is funny!
I agree with poster #6
It's just a cat, why waste that kind of money and medical resources on it. It's better for everyone involved to let it live out it's natural lifespan unaided, or to put it down if it is in extreme pain.
If you can't afford to take care of an animal then don't have one. My pets welfare always comes before my own. My horse had medical insurance when I had none. People and their ideas/treatment of animals never ceases to amaze AND sometimes disgust me.
I love my cat and my ferret but their well being will never come before mine or my family's.... That's nuts
Perhaps she COULD afford to care for her cat when she got him TEN YEARS AGO. People's situations in life change. Who can say what her situation was or is for that matter.
Better said Erin.
Well, it says the cat is 10 year's old. I don't know if they have had it for 10 year's but it's been taken care of this long. Maybe something changed in their income and they are unable to provide the proper care now. You shouldn't be so quick to judge. I love animals but I am in a similiar situation because I have five animals but got laid off from my job of 13 years. So, now I am behind in getting their shot's. I never had been until my income changed.
you are a freak. Insure the animals before yourself? It's an animal!!! Who's going to take care of them when you die of cancer? A cat will eat it's dead owner. People like you are what's wrong with this country
I thought everyone on here was nuts, but then I read the responses to Renee and I'm glad to know there is hope. I love my dogs and I provide for them but should my financial situation change I'm not going let my child stay sick or have my lights turned off because my dog has issues.
Tia, You are what's wrong with this country...self-centered, narcissistic...
Renee,
What a hard azz you are!!!! Did you ever think it's possible that they COULD afford the cat when they got it but maybe because of the economy or maybe another event caused the inability to pay for the cat anymore? At least she did the right thing with the cat. She could have taken him to some area and left him there. LIGHTEN UP. You dont know what the entire situation is. Boy, people from this country have gotten so hardcore with their opinions. Unless you know the entire story 100% dont comment. She puts it plainly that they paid for tests but could not get a diagnosis and the cat got violent. Did you READ the article at all?????
First of all, you need to not judge what you do not know. I have had my children (animals) for a span of 15 years. When they adopted me as their family I could afford whatever came up. Sometimes as they age, just like human animals, expenses arise you cant meet. So you can tell me that if something comes up with one of your kids health wise and you cant afford it, you would just give them away or would you do what you could to help them. Please, you judgemental people make me sick!
Did you miss the part where it said the cat had been RECENTLY diagnosed?
I hope you don't have kids..by kids I mean humans...animals are wonderful..and I agree if you can't take care of them you shouldn't have them..but if you can't take care of the people you have then you shouldn't add animals to your pile.
Please tell me you're joking. One of our dogs recently died due to complications from epilepsy because we couldn't afford the meds. My children are uninsured right now and you think I should've put the dog's medical needs first? And no, we would not consider giving away the dog because she belonged to one of our daughters and besides, how can you be sure to find a home with someone who would actually pay so much for medical care for an animal? The dog might've ended up in some experiment. Your reality is not my reality.
